What to Expect

  • Introduction (one hour in person or online)

This phase involves establishing rapport between the therapist and the client, discussing expectations, goals, and any concerns about the therapy. Therapists may gather information about the client’s mental health history, current symptoms, and any past experiences with psychedelics.

Clients are educated about the therapeutic process, including the effects and risks of the psychedelic substance being used.

  • Session (6-8 hours in person)

During the session, the client ingests a carefully measured dose of a psychedelic substance, such as psilocybin in a supportive and controlled environment.

The therapist provides guidance and support as the client experiences altered states of consciousness induced by the psychedelic substance.

The client may undergo profound insights, emotional releases, and spiritual experiences during this phase.

Therapists may use various therapeutic techniques, such as talk therapy, music, art, or breathwork, to facilitate the therapeutic process.

  • Integration (followed within 48 hours) (1-2hours in person)

Following the session, the integration phase begins, where the client works with the therapist to make sense of their experiences and integrate any insights gained into their daily life.

This phase may involve discussing and processing the content of the psychedelic experience, exploring its significance, and identifying ways to apply insights and lessons learned to personal growth and healing.

Therapists may provide support and guidance on coping with any challenging emotions or experiences that arise during integration.

Integration may involve ongoing therapy sessions, journaling, meditation, or other practices to support the client’s integration process over time.

  • Implementing integration (1-2 hours in person within 30 days of the session)

In this phase, the client actively applies the insights and lessons learned from the psychedelic experience into their daily life.

Therapists work collaboratively with clients to develop practical strategies and action plans to implement changes based on the insights gained during therapy.

Clients may experiment with new behaviors, thought patterns, or coping mechanisms that align with their therapeutic goals.

Therapists provide ongoing support, encouragement, and accountability to help clients navigate challenges and maintain progress. Implementation may involve regular check-ins, homework assignments, and adjustments to the treatment plan based on the client’s evolving needs and experiences.
